Mechanical Engineer

Rivan Industries is a synthetic fuel company decarbonising heavy industry. We’re making synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels, sustaining life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. Here’s our entire business plan

Engineering at Rivan is about taking technologies that are conventionally treated as low volume, bespoke, and expensive, and rethinking them completely to be mass manufactured, standardised, and ultra low cost. Every design aspect must be re-reasoned from first principles, every part’s existence questioned, and every manufacturing step scrutinised.

We’re looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to own one of our sub-systems to drive that forward, tasked with uncovering new ways of thinking about our system integration, performance, longevity, and manufacturability. If you thrive on a lot of responsibility and tight deadlines, come and build!

The role: Own the design and manufacture of an entire Rivan sub-system

We practice our culture, everyone at Rivan has direct ownership of part of our system, regardless of seniority. We operate with minimal process and bureaucracy, only what is essential to ensure our systems are safe, legally compliant, and deployed on time, everything else is up to you. We expect you to:

  • Own the concept generation, architecting and technical requirements of your system
  • Design test-rigs to validate underlying hypothesis quickly and cheaply
  • Own and iterate the design drawings with our fabrication workshop
  • Own the assembly, integration, commissioning and test plans of that sub-system
  • Liaise with external vendors to support our production line

Essential skills:

  • 1-2+ years professional experience
  • Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or related field
  • System design experience including CAD (SolidWorks), design for manufacture/assembly, and part specification and procurement
  • Hands on workshop fabrication and build experience

Additional skills:

  • Fundamental thermofluids understanding, including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer
  • Simulation/analytical modelling competency (e.g. python, FEA, CFD)
  • Test setup design, running of experiments, and data analysis

Specifics:

  • £40-50k Salary depending on experience
  • Significant share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South-East London
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • Health insurance
  • Unlimited time-off
